The start of a new year is a time of reflection and introspection for me. I look forward to the days to come, yet find some time to reflect and enjoy the year gone by.

Today I start my review with The Shelley Shearer School of Dance.

I have always been so proud to associate myself with this dance school. From dancer, to teacher, and now as a photographer, I have experienced the power of dance to change lives and build strong communities. These kids are such pros, and the standard of excellence continues to reach new heights year after year.

Today I post with fond memories of Roy Smith, who passed away suddenly last year. He was such an important part of the Shelley Shearer School of Dance family. He was a teacher who never compromised his standards, yet always gave so much to his students. He was a true gem of a human being.

He used to count down the days to recital, starting on the first day of classes each year. He always reminded me, and it always made me smile. (As of today, there are 21 weeks, or 149 days until recital!) Roy, I miss you dearly.

I am looking forward to seeing the amazing talent that will grace the stage in 2017, but for now here are some highlights from the past year while performing at the Centennial Concert Hall.
